Amy Yoder Begley had already finished ninth in the 5,000 earlier in the Trials.
Yale graduate Laura O'Neill was having a good year despite struggling with injuries.
Dana Coons was an assistant coach at the University of Virginia before moving to Minnesota.
Because the pack was lagging behind "A" standard pace, Kate O'Neill appeared to be in good position...
...to make the Olympic team no matter where she placed, but finishing in the top four would guarantee her a spot on the team.
Kathy Newberry graduated from William & Mary in 2000 and represented the U.S. at the 2004 World XC Championships.
Kristin Price had struggled with injuries ever since a steeplechase accident in 2003, but was running well here.
