Christin Wurth finished 12th in 4:16.68 and did not advance.
Alisha Williams finished 13th in 4:23.38.
Heading down the homestretch, there were 11 women fighting for...
...10 spots in the final. Because this semifinal was much quicker than the first one, all of the...
...time qualifiers would come out of the second heat. Suddenly, Treniere Clement accidentally stepped on...
...the back of Suzy Favor Hamilton's shoe and fell to the track, and Sally Hauser...
...was able to hurdle Clement, stay on her feet and advance to the final (7th, 4:10.99).
Marla Runyan won the heat in 4:09.63, with Suzy Favor Hamilton close behind (4:09.74).
Carrie Tollefson (4:09.87), Lindsey Gallo (4:09.94), and Heather Sagan (4:10.47) all advanced automatically.
Janet Trujillo (4:10.66), Sally Hauser, Bethany Brewster (4:11.18), Shalane Flanagan, and Amy Mortimer (4:11.82) advanced on time.
It was later reported that Suzy Favor Hamilton strained her hamstring in the final meters of this race.
Shalane Flanagan, already on the team in the 5,000, advanced to the final by finishing ninth in 4:11.77.
Unfortunately, Clement, runner-up in the previous month's NCAA 1,500, was the odd woman out. She finished 11th in 4:14.42.

This marked a strong performance for Sagan, the 2002 NCAA Indoor champion in the mile.
Mortimer graduated from Kansas State in 2003.
