R-L:
Jearl Miles-Clark, Nicole Cook, and Francis Santin on the first
lap of their 800m quarterfinal.
|
R-L:
Kristina Bratton, Cook, Ashley Wysong, Santin, Tiffany Burgess,
Tyrona Heath, Jen Toomey, and Alice Schmidt.
|
Toomey
won the 800 and 1,500 at the 2004 USA Indoor Championships, but
hadn't raced much in the spring due to a leg injury.
|
Toomey
just seemed to be biding her time here, though, and she made a strong
move on the second lap.
|
Down
the homestretch, Toomey and Miles-Clark led, with Miles-Clark getting
the slight advantage at the finish...
|
...finishing
in 2:03.24 to Toomey's 2:03.35.
|
This
ended up being the strongest heat, with seven runners advancing.
|
Cook
(2:04.37), Santin (2:04.48), Bratton (2:04.74), Wysong (2:04.79)
and Schmidt (2:04.86) all advanced.
|
Though
she hasn't gotten as much pre-meet attention as Toomey or Nicole
Teter, Miles-Clark showed that she was a serious...
|
...contender
here. Toomey was reportedly suffering from poison ivy as well.
|
After
failing to advance to the final at the NCAA meet, Nicole Cook redeemed
herself here.

does Kristina Bratton.

Francis
Santin catches her breath.
|
Tyrona
Heath finished eighth in 2:07.62 and did not advance.
|
Alice
Schmidt snuck in to the semis as the last time qualifier.
