Briana Shook continues to lead the steeplechase final by a large margin.
Kassi Andersen moves ahead of Ann Gaffigan.
Andersen was the 2003 NCAA champion in the steeplechase.
Gaffigan began the 2004 season with a steeplechase PR of 10:47 but ran 9:59.75 at the NCAA Championships.
Carrie Messner, on the other hand, had never run the steeple until the 2004 season, but she ran 9:50 on her second try.
Shook won the 2003 USA steeplechase title, and would have been on her way...
...to repeating here if she hadn't missed the first water barrier.

Andersen had recently finished her junior year at BYU.
Gaffigan runs in third place.
