Genevieve Graff-Ermeling was the first runner to drop off the back of the pack...
...in the first 5,000m semifinal.
Sarah Hann trails the pack slightly. Because of low numbers, only three runners would be eliminated...
...in the semis. Above: Amy Yoder Begley continues to run at the front of the pack.
Notre Dame's Molly Huddle runs in the pack.
Carrie Tollefson continues to set the pace for the pack.
Hann passes Jennifer Kramer, a recent Boston College graduate.
Graff-Ermeling found out that she had made the cut at the last minute and was running injured here. She finished ninth in 17:53.76.
Tollefson, one of five favorites in the field, continues to lead the pack.
Hann is a two-time World Cross Country team member. She finished seventh here in 16:17.56 and advanced to the final.
Now led by Marla Runyan, a pack of four breaks away.
Also up there are Tollefson, Shalane Flanagan, and Missy Buttry.
Huddle and Yoder Begley drop back a bit, but are still in position to qualify easily.
Kramer finished seventh in this event at the recent NCAA Championships.
For many collegians, extending their season through the Trials can be taxing.
R-L: Runyan, Tollefson, Flanagan, and Buttry.
Yoder Begley puts a little distance on Huddle.
Buttry, a many-time DIII national champion for Wartburg, holds her own against the professional runners.
Yoder Begley has struggled with injuries over the past couple years, but ran a 15:35 5,000 PR this spring...
...to qualify for the Trials. Kramer (above) ran a PR of 15:47.83 this spring to qualify for the Trials.
