The early pace in the women's 5,000m final was conservative and Amy Yoder Begley took the lead.
Shalane Flanagan, who took over the lead early on, would later say, "I'm a front-runner and when the pace...
...was slow early, I didn't want to let it stay that way, because I've trained so hard."
Flanagan ended up leading for most of the race.
