had the fastest time coming into the meet, and Cook ran the fastest
time in the prelims.

Schmidt is a two-time NCAA Outdoor 800m champion.

Nicole
Cook had finished second in this race a year ago by .06, behind
Lena Nilsson of UCLA.

determination was evident from the start.

off the second turn, the runners who started on the outside - Michigan's

Ashley Patten, and Kentucky's Heimann merged withthe rest of the
field.

moved straight for the front, joining Cook, who had already grabbed
the pole.

Bernard-Thomas tucked in behind the two.

Rudzinska
got caught in the back of the pack early on, and seemed to expend
a lot of energy...

up to the front on the second lap.

Kamille Bratton would finish seventh in 2:07.29.

one lap to go, Cook continued to lead and Rudzinska ran just off
her shoulder.
