Iowa's Michelle Lahann gets ready for the first of two 800m heats.	Alice Schmidt, the NCAA Outdoor 800m winner in 2002 and 2003.	Ashley Patten, a sophomore at Missouri.	Oregon senior Eri Macdonald, a former Hawaii high school star.	This is what the starting line of most NCAA Championship races looks like.
Michigan sophomore Katie Erdman gets some air.	Tennessee junior Nicole Cook finished second by .06 in this event one year ago.	Neisha Bernard-Thomas finished second in this event at the 2003 NCAA Outdoor Champs.	The top two in each of two prelims. plus the next four fastest would advance to the final.	Cook would also run on Tennessee's DMR later in the evening.
L-R at the start: Lahann, Bernard-Thomas, Erdman, Schmidt, and Cook.		They used a "two waterfall start" and a two-turn stagger...	...so approaching the 200m mark, the field merged together.	#100 (in red) is Iowa State sophomore Ada Anderson.
Cook set the pace early on, with the rest of the field close behind.	Eri Macdonald's father, Duncan Macdonald, was a star runner for...	...Stanford and a 1976 U.S. Olympian at 5,000m.	Cook continues to lead as the field approaches the halfway point.	Bernard-Thomas and Schmidt run close behind.
