Duke's Paige Miller starts to slip back behind the pack.
Kim Smith had dropped Alicia Craig by 2K and was still on record pace (6:00.4).
Melissa Gulli and Kristin Price ran in fourth and fifth, leading he main pack.
Smith slowed down in the third kilometer, but still went through 3K in an amazing 9:05.3.
At 3K, Smith had a nine-second lead over Craig and a 24-second lead over Molly Huddle.
Stanford sophomore Alicia Craig runs in second place.
Colorado's Christine Bolf would finish 13th in 16:26.83.
Smith began lapping athletes by 3K. Though she was slowing down, she was still...

...on pace to break Sonia O'Sullivan's 15:17.28 collegiate record and Sara Gorton's 15:39.25 meet record.

Craig continued to run strong in second, her performance was one that would have won the race...
