Cook was one of the favorites heading into the meet...
...after winning the indoor title.

She later said, "You wouldn't know from my time, but I was trying to run fast."

Patten and Dwyer both ended up as DNFs.
Schmidt won the third prelim in 2:06.03. Because of the slow early pace, she was the only runner to advance.
