In the 1,500m final, Tiffany McWilliams took it out quickly on the first lap (63 seconds)...
...the most surprising thing was how close the rest of the field remained, with Treniere Clement running in second and Marina Muncan in third.
McWilliams went through 800 meters in 2:10 and continued to lead.
Muncan made a strong move on the final turn, passing Clement, but Clement fought back to finish second.
McWilliams held off Clement to win, 4:11.59 to 4:12.21 on a hot and humid day.
Another front-runner, Brianna Shook, went straight to the lead in her race. But as in the 1,500m final with McWilliams...
...her competition stuck with her. NAU's Ida Nilsson stayed right on Shook's heels.
BYU's Kassi Andersen (right, with USC's Iryna Vashchuk) took a more conservative approach, but never caught up. She finished fourth in 9:58.38.
Shook wasn't used to having her competition go with her.
Nebraska's Ann Gaffigan continued to have a great meet, finishing fifth in 9:59.75, her first time under 10:00.
Nilsson pulled away over the final laps and won her first NCAA steeple title (after finishing second the past two years)...
...in 9:48.29. Shook held on for second in 9:49.44.
LSU's Neisha Bernard Thomas and Wake Forest's Nikeya Green ran up front early in the 800m final.
Burnett, who had the fastest time of the season coming in, was able to break Alice Schmidt's two year winning streak, by finishing first...
...in 2:02.86. Tennessee's Kameisha Bennett finished second in 2:03.11, with Schmidt third in 2:03.79.
Just past the 400m mark of the 5,000m final, Kim Smith, another notorious front-runner, was already on her own.
The rest of the field, led by Duke's Clara Horowitz, just let Smith go and ran for second place.
Smith's pace wasn't terribly fast (just over 5:00 for the first 1,600m), but no one seemed to want to push it too hard in the humid conditions.
Molly Huddle took over the lead of the chase pack...
...with Emmily Chelanga (4th, 16:33.97) of Iona running close behind.
Huddle ran in second for most of the race.
Kim Smith won by more than 36 seconds in 15:48.86.
Sara Bei (16:24.90) outkicked Huddle (16:25.44) for second place.
