Men's Photos

In the 100m Hurdles final, it's (L-R) Olga Shishigina, Vonette Dixon, Gail Devers, Linda Ferga, Jenny Adams, Svetlana Dimitrova, Dionne Rose-Henley and Anjanette Kirkland.
Going over the 3rd hurdle, the three U.S. runners (lanes 6, 4 and 1) appear to be in the lead. Runners on the outside of the track (Kirkland won out of lane one and Shishigina was second out of lane eight) finished unusually well in this race, so much so that the announcer (and a certain photographer) seemed to think Devers (2nd) was in the lead as she crossed the finish line. The surprise winner Kirkland takes a victory lap, wrapped in an American flag.
Kirkland congratulates U.S. teammates Devers (left) and Adams. It was at least 15 minutes before Shishigina was announced as the bronze medallist and assigned a time identical to 4th-placer Dimitrova's. Adams ended up 5th, just .05 back.
The start of the women's 5,000m final. On lap one, it's (R-L) Marta Dominguez, Irina Mikitenko, Benita Willis, Dong Yanmei, Joanne Pavey, Tatyana Tomashova, Merima Denboba, Fatima Yvelain, Olga Yegorova and Edith Masai. Yegorova failed a (performance enhancing) EPO test heading into this meet but was cleared to compete after it was determined that the test would not stand up in court. Needless to say, her presence in this race was controversial and she drew boos from the crowd both at the start and finish.
Across the front of the pack it's Yegorova, 1,500m champ Szabo (who threatened to boycott the race if Yegorova was allowed to compete), Yelena Zadorozhnaya and Mikitenko.
Yegorova, Szabo, Dominguez and Zadorozhnaya. The pace here was relatively slow and played into the hands of the kickers. However, one of the best kickers, Szabo, dropped off the pace before the sprint began and she dropped to 8th. With one lap to go, it's Yegorova, Zadorozhnaya, Worku, Dominguez and Dong.

And as she has done all season long, Yegorova blew them all away with her kick, winning by more than three seconds in 15:03.39. She exited the track immediately without taking a victory lap, later claiming that she forgot to do one.
Two days earlier, during the rounds of the 5,000m, Paula Radcliffe (right) and Hayley Tullett (left) showed up with a sign protesting Yegorova's presence in the race. Her sign was confiscated by meet officials shortly after this photo was taken.
