Heat one of the 1,500m semis, with the first 6 in each heat advancing to the final.
Alesya Turova (4th, 4:11.43) follows Kathleen Friedrich (DNF). L-R: Turova, Carla Sacramento (3rd, 4:11.23), Violeta Szekely (1st, 4:10.30), Friedrich and Helen Pattinson (9th, 4:16.39). Szekely (#652) is one of the favorites, along with countrywoman Gabriela Szabo, heading into Tuesday's final.
Sureyya Ayhan is thrilled as she crosses the line in second (behind Szekely), advancing to the final. Following are Sacramento, the U.S.'s Sarah Schwald (7th), Turova (4th), Nuria Fernandez (5th) and Yuliya Kosenkova (6th). Schwald (4:11.74), who's having the season of her life, narrowly missed advancing to the final, finishing .28 out of 6th. Heat #2, L-R: Suzy Favor-Hamilton, Gabriela Szabo, Abebech Negussie and Natalya Gorelova.
Favor-Hamilton, Szabo and Negussie. Favor-Hamilton looked to be in contention until she dropped out with one lap to go. Natalia Rodriguez, sporting the coolest hairdo of any of the 1,500 runners, advanced to the final with her 5th-place 4:08.49. L-R: Favor-Hamilton, Mardrea Hyman (6th, 4:08.58), Rodriguez, Szabo, crowd favorite Leah Pells (4th, 4:08.49) and Gorelova.
