Szabo on the starting line. They're off. Just before the 400m mark, Sureyya Ayhan leads, followed by Natalya Gorelova, Violeta Szekely and the rest of the field.
Szabo and Russia's Yuliya Kosenkova run in the pack. With one lap to go, Gorelova leads followed by Szekely and Szabo. Szabo runs next to Portugal's Carla Sacramento. Alesya Turova of Belarus.
The race came down to a 400m sprint and Szabo blew both Gorelova and Szekely away, finishing in 4:00.57. Szabo reacts to her win while Gorelova crosses the finish line in third (4:02.40) Szekely's 2nd place (4:01.70) finish made it a 1-2 sweep for Romania. Amy Mbacke Thiam, the first woman from Senegal ever to make a World Championship 400m final looks relaxed and happy before the race.
Ana Guevara of Mexico gets out quickly. In the home stretch, it's (L-R): Lorraine Fenton, Nadjina Kaltouma, Grit Breuer, Mbacke Thiam, Guevara, Olesya Zykina and Mireille Nguimgo. In a close finish, Mbacke Thiam edged out Jamaica's Fenton 49.86 to 49.88. Guevara (on the right) took the bronze in 49.97. Fenton watches the instant replay of the finish.
