Men's Photos

The beginning of the women's 10,000m final. Due to the relatively small field size, the prelims of this race were cancelled and all runners raced in the final.
Yamna Belkacem of France leads Ethiopia's Derartu Tulu. U.S. National runner-up Jen Rhines. The field, led by Belkacem, stayed tightly bunched due to the relatively slow pace.
After getting shut out of the medals at the Olympic Games, Paula Radcliffe was looking to improve on her Olympic 4th-place here. Maria Paredes of Ecuador was more than two minutes behind the next runner in the field, but her 35:44.52 was a personal best by about a minute. Jen Rhines runs alongside U.S. teammate Deena Drossin. Drossin moves to the front of the pack and helps with the pace.
#637 Mihaela Botezan of Romania, followed by 2000 New York City Marathon Champion Lyudmila Petrova and Drossin. Belkacem and Botezan run up front. L-R: #232 Aster Bacha of Ethiopia, Radcliffe (of Great Britain), Russia's Petrova, Morocco'sAsmae Leghzaoui and Ethiopia's Gete Wami. Radcliffe, Petrova and Berhane Adere.
Hrisostomia Iakovou on her way to a 16th place 32:31.46, a new National Record for Greece. Due to the slow pace, the pack stayed tightly bunched until about a mile to go. Tina Connelly, the only Canadian in the field, finished 20th in 33:00.37. Jen Rhines appears to be dealing with some back pain as she drops back to finish 22nd in 33:11.22.
With 800m to go, Paula Radcliffe made a break, but still had three Ethiopians (Adere, Wami and Tulu) in tow. Tulu (31:48.81) holds off Adere (31:48.85) for the win, while Wami (31:49.98) holds off Radcliffe (31:50.06) for the bronze. (Connelly and Portugal's Ana Dias are being lapped.) Despite being with the pack with a mile to go, Drossin (left) wound up 11th in 32:18.65. Here, she exits the track with Rhines. Paula Radcliffe was unable to snatch a medal here as the Ethiopians went 1-2-3.
