The race gets underway.
On the first lap, Stanford's Lauren Fleshman (right), the defending champion, jumps into the lead.
Arizona sophomore Beth Hoge runs in the pack.
The early pace was relatively slow and the pack stayed tightly bunched.
On the inside it's SMU's van Rooyen, Stanford's Bei, Arizona's Hoge, ASU's Brianna Torres and BU's Kathryn Ireland.
Colorado redshirt freshman Sara Gorton takes over the lead.
Also up front are Michigan's Katie Jazwinski, Georgia Tech's Renee Metivier, Yale's Kate O'Neill and Oklahoma State's Siri Alfheim.
Also in there are #101 Marni Kruppa and #406 Jen Handley.
The pack ran the first 1,600 meters in approximately 5:20.
Yale's Kate O'Neill. Her twin sister, Laura, finished third in the 10,000 on Wednesday night.
