The qualifiers from heat one were Henry (10:07.01), McGettigan (10:11.23), Sabino (10:11.86), Somerville (10:14.51) and Coombs (10:17.21).
Carol Henry won the race. Surprising non-qualifiers included BYU's Nan Evans and Marquette's Brianna Dahm.
Virginia sophomore Melanie Matthews finished eight in 10:32.18.

Dawn Cleary was one of the surprising non-qualifiers here, she finished eighth in 10:22.70 and missed advancing by one spot.
Michaela Manova catches up to a tiring Briana Shook going over the last water barrier, but Shook held her off for the win, 9:58.97 to 9:59.54.
Ida Nilsson finished third in 10:05.09 to advance.
Nilsson transfered to Northern Arizona this year after running for Arkansas-Little Rock last year
Lisa Aguilera (4th, 10:05.38) also advanced.
Other qualifiers for the final were Defrancesco (10:05.51), Laura Turner (10:07.77) and Margot Larson (10:12.22).
Lesley Higgins, running in her last college race, finished 9th in 10:35.92.
