Eight qualifiers ended up coming out of this heat.
Automatic qualifiers were Christin Wurth (4:16.80), Shalane Flanagan (4:16.84), Maurica Carlucci (4:17.00) and Lauren King (4:17.01).
Amy Mortimer (4:17.42), Courtney Inman (4:17.53), Bethany Brewster (4:17.76) and Kassie Anderson (4:18.04) also advanced.
Christin Wurth won the heat with a personal best.

The top four runners in each heat plus the next four fasest would advance.
Virginia's Melaine Matthews, UNC's Carol Henry and Michigan State's Ann Somerville lead.
Matthews, Somerville and Henry continue to lead.

Somerville, a junior at Michigan State and Henry, a freshman at UNC, lead.
Henry uses Somerville to help regain her balance.

Carol Henry moves out to a slight solo lead.
Henry, a freshman who originally hails from Canada was running only her third steeplechase ever here.
Henry used to run the 400 hurdles before becoming a distance runner and looks like she'll be a natural at this event.
Nan Evans, a junior at BYU.
Evans finished fifth in the final here last year, running 9:59.50.
Henry increases her lead.
NC State's Katie Sabino goes over the water barrier just ahead of Ann Somerville.
