1.
Mary Jayne Harrelson and Erin Sims concentrate before
the 1,500m final.
2. William & Mary senior Emily Furia.
3. Shalane Flanagan and Ann Marie Brooks at the start.
4. Harrelson sets the pace, Sally Glynn, Tracy Robertson,
Erin Sims, Ashley Couper, Rachel Felton and Brooks
follow.
5. BU junior Felton and Missouri junior Brooks.
6. Harrelson has a healthy lead over Glynn and Robertson
with one lap to go.
7. Robertson, the 2001 NCAA indoor 1,500m champ. runs
in 3rd with one to go.
8. Brooks, Autumn Fogg (4th, 4:19.10) and Domtila
Mwei (8th, 4:23.02).
9. Felton was one of the victims of the three crashes
during this race, she finished 11th in 4:31.54, Brooks
finished 5th in 4:19.14.
10. Flanagan, the only freshman in the final, was
tripped about 200m into the race and though she caught
back up to the pack, she lost a lot of ground and
eventually finished 10th in 4:25.67.
11. An ecstatic Harrelson crosses the finish line
in 4:14.30.
12. Harrelson was the 1999 NCAA 1,500m champion but
redshirted in 2000 to prepare for the Olympic Games.
