1.
Elizabeth Jackson, a former ballerina, puts some
distance on the field.
2. Jackson, a fifth-year senior, has been steepling
since her freshman year. She sat out last spring's track
season knowing that the steeple would become an NCAA
championship event in 2001.
3. Courtney Meldrum, another longtime steepler,
finished 4th in 9:59.28.
4. & 5. Jackson looks like a professional
steepler, while most of her competitors look like runners
participating in the steeplechase.
6. Rebecca Bennion (2nd, 9:54.84) and Kelly MacDonald
(3rd, 9:55.87) both had surprisingly good performances
in Eugene.
7. Nilsson (6th, 9:59.75), one of two freshmen
in the final, should have some good years of steepling
ahead of her.
8. Missouri sophomore Kerry Hils (9th, 10:08.61)
followed by NC State junior Katie Sabino (8th, 10:05.38).
9. Miami of Ohio freshman Andrea Kremer (10th,
10:14.62).
10. Colorado State sophomore Marget Larson (11th,
10:28.78)
11. Stanford sophomore Laura Turner (12th, 10:53.92).
12. Jackson and Bennion congratulate one another.
13. Jackson waves to the crowd. |
