1.
Kate Bradshaw of Washington finished 17th in 37:21.85.
2 - 4. This was Amy Yoder Begley's first NCAA
Championship race of the school year. She had no cross
country eligibility left and had to sit out the indoor
season due to an achilles injury.
5. Texas Tech fifth-year senior Leigh Daniel.
6. Marni Kruppa and Charlotte Sanderson working
hard.
7. Yoder Begley started to put distance on Sara
Day with about a mile to go, steadily moving away and,
crossing the finish line in 33:59.96, six seconds ahead
of Day.
8. The temperature throughout these championships
varied tremendously, from too cold to too hot. Thursday
saw a high temperature of 89 degrees and the temperature
was still in the 80s when the 10k race went off.
9. Yoder Begley hardly got to enjoy her victory
as she collapsed upon crossing the finish line.
10. Illinois State junior Stacia Beste with one
lap to go (15th, 36:13.17).
11. Yoder Begley required medical attention at
the finish line and was eventually carted off the track.
She recovered well enough to compete in the 5,000m final
two days later.
12. Arkansas coach Lance Harter would later say,
"When it comes down to willpower and determination,
it's awful tough to stop a person like Amy, and she
showed that tonight." |
