1.
Amy Yoder Begley and Sara Day lead the race.
2. The two were joined for a while by others,
like UC Irvine's Kareen Nilsson.
3. CU's Jodie Hughes and Molly Austin.
4. Nilsson, Lindsey Thomsen and Michelle Carson.
5. 1999 NCAA 10k champ. Leigh Daniel.
6. Carson (with Nilsson) twisted her ankle
and dropped out.
7. Having recovered from a thyroid problem
that has plagued her for much of the last year, Daniel
ran well here to finish 3rd in 34:42.64. Washington's
Anna Aoki, on the other hand, didn't finish because
of heat-related problems.
8. Lindsey Thompsen, BYU's #1 XC runner for
much of the 2000 season, finished 9th in 35:09.74.
9. Nilsson finished 11th in 35:38.85.
10. Tulsa's Charlotte Sanderson (7th, 34:53.85)
and Stanford's Ann Gunnison (10th, 35:28.44) run together.
11. Sara Wells of Oklahoma State ran 34:44.49
for 4th.
12. Day takes a turn in the lead, but Yoder
Begley led almost the entire race.
13. Much like the men's 10k when only Murray
Link went with Ryan Shay, only Sara Day went with
Amy Yoder Begley when she broke away.
14. Marni Kruppa, Sanderson, Wells and Gunnison.
15. Arizona State's Mary Duerbeck had a tough
day but still finished, running 39:04.80 for 19th.
16. Though we're sure she was working hard,
Leigh Daniel is just one of those runners who never
looks tired.
17. Sanderson and Kruppa (6th, 34:50.31).
18. Nilsson and Maria-Elena Calle (13th, 36:05.98).
