The top three runners in each semi-final would automatically advance...
...to Saturday's final, the runners with the next two fastest times would also advance.
Down the homestretch, it was a close race among the top six runners.
Schmidt (1st, 2:04.17), Bernard-Thomas (2nd 2:04.27) and Lemiesz (3rd, 2:04.49)...
...grabbed the automatic qualifying spots.
Both of the time qualifiers -- Kenia Sinclair (4th, 2:04.51) and Nicole Cook (5th, 2:04.64)...
...ended up coming out of the first semi.
UTEP's Jose van der Veen finished sixth in 2:04.90 and did not advance to the final.
The runners check their times and places on the scoreboard.
Cook sneaked in to the final by a narrow margin.
