Nilsson, a native of Sweden and a freshman at NAU...
...won easily in 4:32.49.
Her winning time was the fastest since Suzy Favor Hamilton's 4:30.63 meet record in 1989.
McWilliams finished second in 4:36.51, a time that would have won this race the previous five years.
Christin Wurth (4:41.73) edged out Roisin McGettigan (4:42.06) for third.
Londa Bevins (4:42.89), Jaime Cottle (4:43.40) and Lauren King (4:43.89) grabbed the next three spots.
After winning, Nilsson sat down on the track to catch her breath...
...as did Malindi Elmore, who finished eighth in 4:45.42.
