Megan Kaltenbach later said that once she dropped out of contention to win, it was hard to stay motivated.
Kaltenbach is already looking forward to the outdoor track season; she hopes to break the national record in the mile.
Also having a rough day -- due to the bug that she came down with the day before the race -- was Ari Lambie.
Lambie had looked dominant in her races all season and was the only undefeated runner, other than Zoe Nelson, heading in.
Lambie finished 22nd in 18:34.
She will attend Stanford University next year and will be teammates with runner-up Katy Trotter.
Lambie has run 2:08 in the 800m and should be a strong force on the track this spring.
Sara Powell sprinted by Massachusetts rival Lambie at the end and finished 21st in 18:33.
Maddie Schueler finished 23rd in 18:43.
After finishing eighth in the South Regional, Schueler finished third among South runners here.
Natalie Picchetti finished 24th in 18:49.
Caitlin Chock finished 26th in 18:51.
Tara Lenn and Staci Honeyman (right) raced down the home stretch.
Lenn got the edge in the end, finishing 27th in 18:54.
Honeyman finished 28th in 18:56.
Lauren Blankenship finished 29th in 19:12.
Blankenship has already committed to attend Samford University next fall on a scholarship.
Kate Merrill finished 30th in 19:42.
The fact that Nikki Bohnsack even qualified for this race was quite amazing...
...She fractured her hip in August after jumping off a dock and hitting a rock.
