By
the mile mark, Caitlin McTague -- the sixth-place finisher at the
Northeast Regional -- had taken over the lead.
|
Zoe
Nelson, Laura Cummings and Nicole Blood followed.
|
It
was no surprise to see Zoe Nelson near the lead, but many did not
expect to see Cummings and McTague so close to the front.

Colorado's
Megan Kaltenbach runs in fifth place.

|
Sara
Powell runs in sixth, Rachel Bryan in seventh and Ari Lambie in
eighth.
|
Though
Lambie seemed to be within striking distance during the first half
of the race, she said afterwards that she just felt weak.
|
Amber
Smith (with a large group of runners) runs just outside of the top
ten near the mile mark.

Zoe
Nelson moved into the lead on the biggest hill of the course (which
the runners go up twice).
|
Here,
approaching the halfway point, Nelson is pursued by Laura Cummings,
Megan Kaltenbach and Caitlin McTague.
|
Kaltenbach,
the only senior of the group, was looking for her first win in three
trips to the National Finals.

|
Though
she didn't hold much of a lead at this point, Nelson appeared to
be in control of the race.
