In the afternoon a CT scan finds 4 lesions on the liver that did not show in the March 2003 scan (varing size from 8 to 15 mm.) and are suspected to be liver metastases. Also, is noted that the tumor is applying pressure to the duct to one of the kidneys. The radiologist is unsure if is the same tumor causing this or could be a separate one. Emergency surgery is proposed to remove the colon cancer and to biopsy the liver lesions as well as to inspect what else is going on in the abdomen. |

24 Feb 2004 | I can no longer take the bowel block and have surgery to try to remove the colon tumor. Dr. Randy Friesen is the surgeon. He is not able to remove the tumor as it appears to be attached to the right pelvic sidewall. There was an obviously involved right pelvic lymph node and the urinary bladder was plastered onto the anterior aspect of this tumor quite firmly, and over a moderately large area. A temporary colostomy is performed. A loop of sigmoid colon is brought to the surface and was then opened up using electrocautery. Click here to read full report.
