Behind Deena Kastor (left) and Sylvia Mosqueda, the pack included...
...Colleen De Reuck, Magdalena Lewy Boulet, and Jen Rhines...
...with a slight gap back to Deeja Youngquist and Jenny Spangler. Heather Hanscom ran in ninth.
L-R: De Reuck, Rhines, Lewy Boulet, Spangler, and Youngquist.
Mosqueda is known for having led the 1988 Marathon Trials by a large margin for 16 miles before dropping out.
This was Kastor's first appearance at the Olympic Marathon Trials.
Kastor and Mosqueda pass through Muny Circle.
A pack of women heads the other way.
Just over 56 minutes into the race, Blake Russell continued to hold a large lead.
Just past the one-hour mark, Deena Kastor is a speck in the distance.
Russell reportedly only took water during the race and didn't put out her own bottles.
#105 Kim Harrity and #141 Diana Bowser run together.
Russell passes by a clock around the halfway point (her split was reported in the results as 1:12:17, though).
1:24 into the race, Kastor had visibly closed the gap on Russell...
...and it would only be a matter of time before Kastor caught up.
Russell runs by a sign that reads, "In America, we like our women fast!"
Russell appeared to take a gel at this point in the race (1:33 in)...
...and behind her, Kastor took her bottle of Cytomax.
Kastor caught Russell in the 18th mile, 1:38 into the race...
...and passed her decisively.
