Kara Grgas-Wheeler (7th, 15:41.77) leads Nicole Jefferson (8th, 15:45.12).
After winning the NCAA 10,000m championship less than three weeks earlier, Amy Yoder-Begley returns to Hayward Field (in her new Asics uniform) and runs 15:54.74 for 11th.
Melissa Gulli leads Oregon grad. Marie Davis (10th, 15:53.50).
Former Wesleyan University standout and now an assistant coach at Amherst College, Sarah Hann runs in her first track nationals here, finishing 18th in 16:18.81.
Everyone, including Marla Runyan, knew that if she was going to prevent Regina Jacobs from pulling off the triple here, she'd have to run away from her and get out of Regina's striking zone when it came to the final sprint. Runyan, who lives in Eugene and was a crowd favorite, executed her plan well, winning in 15:08.03.
