Rebecca
Bennion (#146) leads the steeplechase final by a small
margin going over the water barrier for the first
time.
|
Kelly
MacDonald and Elizabeth Jackson lead. Bennion and
Lisa Nye follow. Bennion fell with just over a lap
to go, taking her out of contention. She finished
7th in 10:07.56.
|
Stanford's
Laura Turner goes over a barrier with one lap to go.
She finished 12th in 10:23.60. After being introduced
at the NCAA meet for the first time this year, this
event featured a lot of collegiate competitiors.

|
Lisa
Nye, a University of Oregon grad sprints by race favorite
and (former) American Record holder Elizabeth Jackson,
edging her out 9:49.41 to 9:49.94.
|
After
finding out she had asthma just 10 days before the
race, Nye almost opted out of the meet but the problems
cleared up just in time.
|
Nye's
9:49.41 was also a new American Record, shaving just
tenths of a second off the record that Jackson set
here just two weeks earlier.

|
The
women's steeplechase is not yet contested at the World
Championships so you won't see Kelly MacDonald, Lisa
Nye or Elizabeth Jackson in Edmonton this summer.

The
1,500m final - Priscilla Hein takes the lead less
than 400m into the race, Shayne Culpepper, Regina
Jacobs and Collette Liss run on her outside.

One
lap later, the race still looks just about the same.
|
Kim
McGreevy finished 10th in 4:17.77.
|
With
less than a lap to go, Suzy Favor Hamilton has taken
over the lead with Regina Jacobs on her shoulder,
ready to pounce.
