Heading up First Avenue in Manhattan, the pack had been whittled down to eight women.
L-R: Joyce Chepchumba, Esther Kiplagat, Lyubov Denisova, Olivera Jevtic, Ludmila Petrova, Lornah Kiplagat, Kerryn McCann and Glusac.

Coming off the bridge, Jevtic and McCann got tangled up and went down hard, which essentially took both of them out of contention.
Whether or not they even noticed the fall, Chepchumba and Denisova took the opportunity to break away.
Jevtic bounced up pretty quickly, McCann took a little longer, saying later that she had had the wind knocked out of her.
