Stanford USATF Summer Qualifier - No World Championship 'A' standards achieved. Kim Fitchen 32:32.00, Sylvia Mosqueda 32:34.38 in 10,000. Matt Lane runs 13:51.06 in a race with 11 starters and 3 finishers.
Francophone Games - Diane Cummins wins the 800 (2:00.77), Elena Iagar wins the 1,500 (4:17.03). Tina Connelly takes the 5,000 (16:05.59) and Zhor El Kamch the 10,000 (34:07.52).
Norwich Union British Grand Prix - (July 22) Paula Radcliffe takes the 5,000 (14:44.21), Marla Runyan is 4th in a PR 15:05.48, Elva Dryer is 11th (15:20.40). Fabiane dos Santos wins 800m (1:57.65).
Herculis Monaco - (July 20) Maria Mutola wins a close 800m (1:57.11). Violeta Szekely wins 1,500m (3:59.35), Suzy Favor Hamilton is 3rd (4:00.38) and Sarah Schwald scores a PR in 7th (4:05.98). Edith Masai wins flat 3k (8:34.79), Deena Drossin is 9th (8:45.77) and Amy Rudolph 11th (9:00.84).
Cuxhaven Meeting - (July 21) Jen Toomey wins 800 and just misses 'A' standard with a 2:00.38. Nicole Teter is 3rd (2:01.32).

Ndereba, Korir win Bix 7 Miler
Subaru Buffalo (NY) 4 Mile Chase - Joseph Itati wins in 17:53, Kenyans dominate the men's race. Canadian Tania Jones wins women's race (21:28) over Romanian Elena Fidatoff (21:34).
Bill Luti 5-Miler - (Concord, NH) Kristen Coogan (28:57) over Cathy O'Brien (29:12). Paul Mwangi (24:28) wins men's race.
Rockville (MD) Rotary Runfest 8k - Anna Pichrtova (27:29) over Naoko Ishibe (27:46).

Cottbus, Germany - (July 18)
DN Galan, Stockholm, Sweden - (July 17) Jose Redolat wins 1,500m (3:31.21), Adam Goucher is 12th (3:36.64), Paul McMullen 13th (3:36.68) and Andy Downin 18th (3:39.88). Alberto Garcia wins 5,000m (13:04.86), Wilson Boit Kipketer wins the steeple (8:14.87), Anthony Famiglietti is 4th (8:21.00) and Tom Chorny 7th (8:33.79). Maria Mutola wins 1,000m (2:33.53), Hazel Clark is 10th (2:49.40). Edith Masai wins 5,000m (14:45.86 ), Deena Drossin is 5th (15:08.02).
Hectel, Belgium Meeting - (July 14) Jen Toomey runs an 800 PR but just misses World Champ. 'A' standard with a 2:00.83. Pamela Chepchumba wins 5,000m (15:08.20), Amy Rudolph runs well in 4th (15:10.83), as does Carrie Tollefson in 12th (15:25.52, a big PR, we think.) Deena Drossin (5:42.76) finishes a close 4th to Sugar Kihana (5:42.14) in the rarely run 2,000m. Paul McMullen (2nd 1,500m 3:35.3 HT) and Matt Lane (16th 5,000m 13:25.63) get their World Champ. 'A' standards. In the 1,500m, Jason Lunn runs 3:36.5, Michael Stember 3:36.9, Bryan Berryhill 3:37.1. The U.S. goes 1-2-3 in the 800m, led by David Krummenacker (1:45.57). Paul Kosgei (13:09.27) wins 5,000m, Abdi Adirahman (7th, 13:19.86). (And other U.S. men do well in 'B' race.)
Minnesota Distance Classic - (July 14, University of Minnesota) Ray Weeden 4:03.28 mile, Rasa Michniovaite 4:17.13 1,500m, Andre Williams 14:05.07 5,000m, Chad Johnson 2nd (14:05.99), Sara Day 16:16.08 5,000 (meet record), Kim Kauls 35:01.52 10,000m

Exxon Mobil Bislett Games - (July 13, Oslo, Norway)
Violeta Szekely wins 1,500 (4:01.45), Suzy Favor Hamilton 2nd (4:03.60), Sarah Schwald 6th (4:08.18), Regina Jacobs 8th (4:11.46), Edith Masai wins 5,000 (14:46.06) over Gabriela Szabo (14:46.92), Elva Dryer 6th (15:03.56), Jen Rhines 8th (15:13.26). Stephanie Graf wins 800 (1:58.20) over Maria Mutola (1:58.70), Hazel Clark is 7th (2:02.95). Ali Saïdi-Sief wins mile in 3:48.23, Lassiter 9th (3:54.36), Paul Bitok wins 5,000 (13:00.10), Bob Kennedy 16th (13:17.51), Wilson Boit Kipketer wins the steeple (again) in 8:12.63 with Tim Broe 6th (8:19.78).

Indian Path Medical Center & SunTrust Bank Crazy 8's 8k - Knoxville, TN Alene Emere (1st, 22:03.4) and Enock Mitei (22:03.9), Irene Kwambi (25:46.4) wins women's race, Kris Ihle Helledy is 4th (26:26.9).
Stowe 8-Miler - (July 15, Stowe, VT) Diana Bowser (45:21) and Paul Mwangi (39:47) win.

Vytra Health Plans Long Island Women's 5k - (Farmingdale, NY) Catherine Ndereba wins in 15:35, Esther Kiplagat is 2nd (15:45), Rachel Sauder (4th, 16:33) is first American.

Avon Running 10k - (July 14, Hartford, CT) Gordon Bakoulis (35:05) wins.
Fleet Bank Teterboro Airport 5k - (July 14, Teterboro, NJ) Stephen Ondieki (14:52) and Madelyn Noe (17:34) win.
Harbour Trail 5k - (July 14, Portsmouth, NH) Cathy O'Brien (17:37) and Raymond Youngs (15:27) win.
Bend "It Goes Down Easy" Marathon - (July 15, Bend, OR) Cheryl Smith (2:56:55) and Christopher Toepfer (2:34:36) win.

Can Am IV: McGill International - (Montreal, Quebec) Mary Jayne Harrelson wins 1,500 in a 4:07.37 PR, avenging Saturday's loss to Collette Liss, Nicole Teter (2:01.50) dominates the 800, Dulce Maria Rodriguez wins the 5,000 in 15:22.26, Kristin Chisum is 3rd in 15:37.12. Otukile Lekote wins men's 800 in 1:44.47, Clay Schwabe (3:41.79) edges out Michigan-bound Nate Brannen (3:41.80) in the 1,500. Ohmori Terukazu wins 5,000 (13:50.07) and Weldon Johnson wins the 10,000 with a PR 28:10.14.

July 6-9, 2001 - The Track
Nikaia Grand Prix Meet, Nice - Justyna Bak shatters steeplechase world record with a 9:25.31, Elizabeth Jackson runs a new American Record (9:43.36) to finish 3rd. Olga Raspopova wins 1,000m in 2:34.77, Russia goes 1-2-3 with all three under 2:25. Violeta Szekely wins close 1,500m over Regina Jacobs, 4:06.55 to 4:06.69.
XIX Reunion de Athletismo, Madrid - Francis Marwa wins 800m (1:45.81), David Krummenacker a close 2nd (1:45.82), Robert Rono wins 1,500m (3:33.65), Bryan Berryhill 5th (3:36.41), Andy Downin 7th (3:38.30, just off 'A' standard again). Kelly Holmes wins 800m (2:00.54), Hazel Clark 4th (2:02.32). Marta Domínguez takes 1,500m in 4:06.92.
New Balance Maine Distance Festival - Jen Toomey sets a meet record (2:01.95) in the 800m, Collette Liss (4:09.10) outleans Mary Jayne Harrelson (4:09.12), Akiko Kawashima wins 5,000 (15:27.93). Mark Croghan (8:26.14) wins the steeplechase, Clay Schwabe (3:58.91) narrowly defeats Jason Lunn in the mile, Otukile Lekote wins the 800m (1:46.57), Shadrack Kosgei wins an exciting men's 5,000m in 13:42.48 (the results are wrong as of this moment, Williams was less than a second back)
Cork City Meeting - Michael Stember wins 800m (1:48.25), Mark Carroll takes 1,500m (3:38.76), James Getana wins 5k (13:37.77), Freda Davoren wins women's 1,500m (4:15.60), Benita Willis (15:36.93) takes 5k
Aileen Meagher International Track Classic - University of Michigan-bound Canadian Nate Brannen breaks the 4:00 mile barrier with a 3:59.85
Meeting Gaz de France - Hicham El Guerrouj runs 3:28.38 1,500m, Seneca Lassiter gets the World Championship 'A' standard (8th, 3:34.32), Luke Kipkosgei wins 5,000m (13:02.25), Wilson Boit Kipketer takes the steeple (8:08.13), Andre Bucher wins 800m in 1:43.34, Violeta Szekely wins the 1,500m in 4:01.55, Suzy Favor Hamilton is 3rd in 4:02.64, Sarah Schwald (7th, 4:06.64) gets the 'A' standard, Russia, led by Olga Yegorova's 8:23.75, goes 1-2-3 in 3k, Gabriela Szabo is fourth

July 6-9, 2001 - The Roads
Utica (NY) Boilermaker 15k - John Korir (42:56) and Catherine Ndereba (48:05) win. Alan Webb runs the race as a workout and finishes 141st in 54:19, one spot ahead of Bill Rodgers (54:20)
Albert R. Taxin Boardwalk 5k - (Atlantic City, NJ) Kate Fonshell (17:00, 6th overall) wins with recent high school grad. Erin Donohue second (17:39, 8th overall). Wilson Kagiri wins men's race (15:00).
Surf City 5k - (Huntington Beach, CA) Jesse Strutzel wins by a second in 14:51, Mary Colburn takes the women's race (17:53).
San Francisco Chronicle Marathon - Vitas Ezersis (2:30:53) and Micah Lowe (3:12:10) win
Arizona Road Racers Summer Series 5k #3 - Chris Duncan (15:43) and Suzy Schumacher (18:36) win

Athletissima 2001 Lausanne (IAAF Grand Prix #1, July 4, 2001) - Irina Mistyukevich 1:58.80 800m, Regina Jacobs 4th in 1:59.07, Asmae Leghzaoui 8:39.89 3k, Elva Dryer and Amy Rudolph go 4-5. Andre Bucher 1:43.58 800m, Ali Saïdi-Sief 3:29.51 1,500m win, Ngeny 3rd, Bryan Berryhill 9th in 3:35.56 - earns World Championship 'A' standard, Andy Downin just misses by half a second (but runs a PR) in 3:36.70. Paul Bitok wins flat 3k in 7:32.61, Tim Broe pulls off his second great race in Europe to finish 7th in 7:39.45.
Norwich Union Challenge GB vs. USA - (July 1, 2001) Elizabeth Jackson (9:48.72) reclaims steeplechase AR, Tara Krzywicki (9:52.71) also sets a national record. Olga Yegorova wins 1,500m (4:02.76), Sarah Schwald comes close to the 4:07.00 WC 'A' standard with a 4th place 4:07.33. Seneca Lassiter wins tactical 1,500m in 3:50.78. Paul Korir wins faster of two 800m heats in 1:47.61.
