Home Depot Mid May Classic 4-Miler (Fairfield, CT) - Gordon Bakoulis sets new masters course record in the process of winning (22:06) while Gideon Mutisya wins on the men's side (19:03).

Northeastern Husky Twilight Meet #1 - Katie Sabino (16:34.81), Chris Dugan (14:15.15) win 5,000m, Peter Hollatz runs 3:46.93 1,500m, Darin Shearer wins steeple (8:56.21).
Pac 10 Championships - Michael Stember 1:50.02 800. Gabe Jennings 3:43.30 1,500 and 3rd in 800. Bolota Asmeron 14:07.23 5k over Jon Riley. David Bazzi 29:27.31 10k win and 3rd in 5k (14:12.04), Don Sage 3:43.70 1,500 (2nd) and 14:14.08 5k (4th). Jesse Thomas 8:51.48 steeple. Brigita Langerholc 2:02.03 800, Sally Glynn 4:16.98 1,500 with 4 Stanford runners under 4:19. Kelly MacDonald 16:22.75 5k and 10:03.20 steeple wins, Glynn 2nd in 5k (16:30.21), Anna Aoki 34:19.63 10k and 3rd in 5k (16:33.44).

ECAC/IC4A Championships - Matt Lane 13:42.33 5k over Paul Reilly and Keith Kelly, Max King 8:45.84 steeple in fast race with 7 under NCAA provisional qualifer, Galvin Dermot 30:09.96 10k, Jason Jabaut 3:49.31 1,500, Ryan Smith 1:49.19 800. Kate O'Neill (16:10.61) leads 2 others under 5k auto qualifier, twin sister Laura takes the 10k (34:49.06), Amy Baxter 10:24.01 steeple, Rachel Felton 4:23.67 1,500 (Shannon Smith, 3rd, runs 4:21.12 in the prelims.) Big 12 Championships (men) - Korene Hinds has great meet - 2:05.34 800 and 4:22.19 1,500 against strong field, Ann Marie Brooks 16:29.40 5k, Kerry Hils 10:28.82 steeple, Leigh Daniel 35:18.39 10k. Floyd Thompson 1:48.40 800, Shadrack Kimeli 3:47.03 1,500 over J. Torres, and 14:27.43 5k over E. Torres, Steve Slattery 8:47.16 steeple, Mike Pitts 30:25.03 10k.

WAC Championships (men) - Eliud Njubi triples! Runs 1:50.30 800 and 3:47.19 1,500 and 14:45.47 5k in one day. Svetlana Badrankova 2:05.33 800, Fride Vullum 4:27.56 1,500 and 16:49.13 5k, Cheryl Smith 35:15.97 10k.
Big West Conference (women) - Jan Eitel 8:56.73 steeple, Paulo Carvalho takes 10k (30:01.80) and 5k (14:26.67), Kareen Nilsson 16:45.18 5k, Jennifer DeRego 34:59.76 10k.

Jim Tuppeny Memorial Meet at Villanova - Shannon Smith wins the 1,500 (4:23.98) with Christine Kane 2nd (4:27.64). Kim Saddic wins the 3k in 10:04.4


Weekend of May 11-13 - The Roads
River Bank 25k Run (U.S. Champs -- (Story) - Svetlana Zakharova (1:24:39, new CR), John Kagwe (1:14:07) win, Milena Glusac (1:26:05, 4th fastest U.S. ever) and Chad Johnson (1:16:11) are national champions.
National Capital Marathon and MDS Nordion 10k - Danuta Bartoszek wins marathon in 2:37:58, FILA Discovery's Sandy Jacobson is 2nd in 2:38:27. Uta Pippig wins 10k in 32:31, Tina Connely is 2nd in 32:54.
USATF NE Mountain Running Championships - Nicki Kimball wins by more than two minutes, runs 47:51 for very uphill 10k.

Weekend of May 11-13 - The Track
Badger Invitational at Wisconsin (PDF) - With Suzy Favor-Hamilton and Sarah Schwald as her rabbits, Kathy Butler earns World Champ qualifying time with a 15:14.62 (2nd place is 21:00). Jenelle Deatherage wins the 1,500 in 4:17.82, Bethany Brewster is 2nd in 4:22.89.
Cardinal Qualifier at Stanford - On her way back, Kara Grgas-Wheeler runs 15:41.78 5,000 with Kim Fitchen 2nd (15:59.57). Diane Cummins wins 800 (2:03.24) with Nicole Teter (2:05.45) 2nd and Stanford's Ashley Couper (2:05.82) 3rd. Maurica Carlucci of Stanford takes the 1,500 (4:22.91) and CU's Lesley Higgins is 2nd (4:24.71). Kara Ormond wins the steeple (10:10.04).
IAAF Japan Grand Prix in Osaka - Leah Malot wins the 5,000 in 15:18.46, narrowly defeating Berhane Adere (15:18.87). Tegla Loroupe (15:22.42) finishes 3rd.
Oregon Twilight Meet - Clare Taylor (15:29.16) edges out Courtney Babcock (15:29.60) in the 5,000, Janet Trujillo edges out Lisa Karnopp-Nye in the steeple by .05 with a 10:09.70, Tonya Dodge 3rd in 10:10.83. Nathalie Cote 4:19.76 1,500m, Vicky Lynch-Pounds 4:19.92, Kerry Mackelvie 2:11.25 800m.
Golden Spike Tour Open @ Princeton Invitational - Cheri Kenah (4:31.10) beats out Carrie Tollefson (4:33.15) in the mile. UNC-bound HS senior Erin Donohue goes 4:47.51 for 9th.

UNC/NCCU May Madness Track Meet - Bobbie Jo Munson (2:04.06) and Alice Schmidt (2:04.75) automatically qualify for NCAAs, Beth George wins 1,500 in 4:24.13.
JMU Invitational - Juli Henner wins 800 (2:05.79), Sasha Spencer of G'town is 2nd (2:06.09). G'town also goes 1-2 in 1,500 with Jill Laurendeau (4:21.65) and Erin Sicher (4:22.63), Amy Baxter wins close steeple race (10:47.10), Kris Phillips (10:48.20) 2nd.
Occidental Invitational - Casey Smith 16:48.60 5,000m, Katie Barto 4:22.19 1,500m, Tiffany Burgess 2:06.13 800m (UCLA goes 1 through 4 in the 800)
SEC Championships - Amy Yoder-Begley wins the 10,000 (35:23.40) and the 5,000 (16:16.36), Lilli Kleinmann wins the steeple in 10:13.89, Nona Allen wins the 800 (2:06.47), Tracy Robertson wins the 1,500 (4:20.89) and is 2nd in the 5,000 (16:30.36), Arkansas dominates the team competition.
Conference USA Championships - Jolene Williams 16:48.57 in 5,000m, Susan Barth (16:50.41) and Bethany Harry (16:51.20) of Marquette go 3-4.
