Heading to the finish line. Toomey (right) edged out Nicole Teter (left) 2:01.95 to 2:02.10. Ballantine was 3rd in 2:02.17, all three were under the previous meet record. The start of the 5,000m. Kumi Tanabe of Japan sits in the back of the pack.
Janelle Kraus (9th, 16:41.56) leads Kim McGreevy. L-R: Nicole Jefferson, Marie (McMahon) Davenport, Eyerusalem Kuma, Tanabe, Yuko Manabe and Akiko Kawashima. McGreevey catches up to Kraus. Nicole Jefferson on her way to a 4th-place 15:54.15.
McGreevey, making the move up from 1,500m to 5,000m ran a wise race, starting in the back and moving up, and was rewarded with a big PR of 15:55.14 for 5th.
Kawashima leads Manabe and Tanabe. Eyerusalem Kuma ran 15:59.86 for 6th. Last year she was part of the record-setting 10,000m race here when she finished 4th in 31:48.60. A year ago, Seana Carmean had never broken 19 minutes for 5,000m. This year she dipped under 17 minutes. She finished 10th here in 17:11.89.
Kawashima followed by Manabe. Tanabe has started to drop back.
Former Providence College star Marie Davenport (8th, 16:11.51). Kawashima eventually sprinted away from Manabe, winning 15:27.93 to 15:29.47. Davenport.
   
 
Rachel Sauder finished 7th in 16:11.18.
