When Hitchcock dropped out, Great Britain's Hayley Tullet found herself in the lead.
Lyubov Kremlyova, 41, ran 3:58.71 for 1,500 meters in 1992 and ranked second in the world.

Carmen Douma hails from Canada but attended Villanova.
Many of the athletes appeared to be watching the new "Armorytron" jumbo screen as they ran down the backstretch.
Tullet held on to win in 4:27.46.
Kremlyova finished second in 4:29.72,
Kremlyova's time has been reported as a world indoor masters' record.
Jill Snyder finished furth in 4:39.48, behind Carmen Douma (4:35.94).
Sascha Scott finished seventh in 5:07.11.
