#445 Metivier or Georgia Tech, the 2001 NCAA XC runner up, takes the very early lead.
Andreina Byrd takes over the lead, she's followed by Metivier, Kansas State's Amy Mortimer and Missouri's Ann Marie Brooks.
The lead pack also includes West Virgina's Megan Metcalfe and Northern Arizona's Ida Nilsson.
Amy Mortimer, running in second, wound up fourth in 9:09.99, a KSU school record by more than six seconds.
Byrd continues to lead and most of the runners in the field are still in contention.
Megan Metcalfe, Lisa Aguilera and Kristin Price hang out near the front of the pack.
With three laps to go, Lauren Fleshman has moved into the lead and is looking strong.
Ida Nilsson latches on to Fleshman...
...And challenges her with one lap to go.
Fleshman hung on to win in 9:07.45.
It ws a close race behind Fleshman with Aguilera second (9:09.67), Metccalfe third (9:09.95) and Mortimer fifth (9:09.99).
Fleshman now has two NCAA titles in her collection - this one and her 2001 outdoor 5,000m championship.
