Nicole Jefferson dominated the flat 3k, running 9:18.26 The University/Open 3k steeple. Brittney Mensen ran 17:41.51 in the University/Open 5k. Gillian Palmer, back from injury, ran 16:22.91 to finish 2nd.
Liz Reusser (6th,16:33.13) leads a pack. Ida Nilsson ran a collegiate leader (and a Swedish National Record, we think) of 10:03.98 in the steeple. Colorado freshman Kendall Grgas-Wheeler (15th,11:03.07 makes a splash in the steeple. NCAA indoor mile runner-up Lesley Higgins ran 10:17.69 for 2nd. Hawaii's Cheryl Smith (2nd, 34:25.35) leads the chase pack in the Univ./Open 10k.
Monica Hostetler (1st, 34:04.34) and Turena Johnson Lane (3rd, 34:30.49) lead the U/O 10k. Melissa Foon ran 35:08.27 for 15th. Kristin Price (in orange) leads Lilli Kleinmann and Andreina Byrd in the Invitational 5k. Ireland's Breeta Dennehy Willis won the invitational 5k in 15:38.91. Sarah Toland and Erin Sullivan streak by.
Three-time NCAA champion Kara Grgas-Wheeler returned to the track after sitting out the indoor season with an injury. Margarita Tapia (2nd, 15:47.53). Rachel Sauder (6th, 15:55.91), Jenny Crain (3rd, 15:48.08) and America Mateos. Grgas-Wheeler put in a solid effort, finishing 12th in 16:00.88. Willis won convincingly, finishing almost 10 seconds ahead of 2nd place.
Kathy Butler had an equally convincing win in the invitational 10k, running 31:59.27. Courtney Babcock (32:48.76) followed by Kareen Nilsson (33:48.59) and Diana Bowser (34:33.32). Texas Tech's Leigh Daniel continued her comeback, running 33:32.22. Carol Montgomery (3rd, 32:19.14) on the left and we know it's Sylvia Mosqueda (4th, 32:31.94) on the right. Katie McGregor (who apparently DNF'ed) leads Yumiko Suzuki (33:49.97).

We just like Mosqueda's tattoo. After telling us she wasn't sure she'd ever run a 10k, Jodie Hughes ran a nice debut of 33:25.14 -- and was the fastest collegian of the day. Milena Glusac ran well in 6th (32:40.78).
