There's nothing like a few Photo Run shots to make ours look bad... Ndereba's 3-year-old daughter Jane got to see mom win a race outside of Kenya for the first time. Poland's Malgorzata Sobanska was a slight surprise in 2nd... ...Running 2:26:42, a new PR. Lyubov Morgunova takes 3rd in 2:27:18.
Lornah Kiplagat, 4th, 2:27:56. Roba finished 5th in 2:28:08. Irina Timofeyeva, 6th, 2:28:50. NYC Marathon champ. Ludmila Petrova took a nasty tumble during the race and finished 7th in 2:29:23. 20-year-old Wei Yanan of China finished 8th in 2:29:52.
Bruna Genovese of Italy, 9th, 2:30:39. Kaori Tanabe, 10th, 2:31:31. Albina Galliamova, 11th, 2:32:45. Zhang Shujing, 12th, 2:33:43. Masters winner Gitte Karlshoj of Denmark, 13th, 2:36:36.
Jill Gaitenby, the first American, PRed by more than 12 minutes... ...Running 2:36:45 for 14th. She joined the Fila Discovery USA program... ...just 10 weeks ago. Her weekly average of 107 miles obviously paid off. Gaitenby was on familiar turf --she lived in Boston for years and graduated from Boston College in '88. Susannah Beck, of Eugene, OR was the next runner in, finishing 15th with a 2:37:12.
Beck was the 4th place finisher at last year's U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials. Shireen Crumpton of New Zealand, 16th, 2:40:25. Rachel Hopkins-Cook of Santa Cruz, Calif. finished 17th in 2:41:00. Beth Whitney of Providence, RI was the first "unseeded" runner, with a 2:41:42 for 18th.
