As is often the case, Friehofer's had a deeper elite field than many other road races.

Kenah, the local favorite, was running her first race after giving birth to twins in November 2003.
#1276 Roxanne Wegman, #756 Sarah Anderson, and #406 Monica Joyce.
#400 Joan Benoit Samuelson and #98 Dot McMahan. Yellow numbers denote those who are 40 and older (masters).
#55 Barbara McManus and #1607 Kayla Ratigan.
Just past the one-mile mark (which they passed in 5:05), Elva Dryer (left) and Marla Runyan lead.
One week earlier, Runyan had run a 5,000m PR of 14:59.20, making her a favorite here.
Runyan began to pull away in the second mile.
Dryer, Colleen De Reuck, and Nicole Aish followed.
Sylvia Mosqueda, 38, ran alone in fifth place. Mosqueda later said that she...
...didn't really start racing until the third mile, when it was too late.
