Interview
Though she began running in 3rd grade, Juli Henner considers herself to
be somewhat of a late bloomer. She has relatively fast high school (200m:
26.5, 400m: 57.0, 800m: 2:14) and college (800m: 2:08, 1,500m: 4:20) PRs,
but Henner was a few years out of college before she really established
herself as one of the U.S.'s best middle distance runners.
A member of the Washington,
DC-based Reebok Enclave, Henner is known best for her second-place finish
in the 1,500m at the 1996 U.S. Olympic Trials, which earned her a spot
on the 1996 Olympic Team. Unfortunately, a nagging foot injury prevented
her from running to her potential at the Games, where she finished 10th
in her heat.
Henner's PRs include a 2:00.80
800m (1996), 4:06.68 1,500m (1995) and a 9:03.59 3,000m (1995). Though
she has struggled to reach peak form in the past few years, at 30, she's
still young and potentially has some great running ahead of her.
