  • Woodland-In-A-Day
  • (For more articles on Woodland Istitute SIAST click HERE)

If post-secondary education is one big puzzle, don’t worry. Woodland Institute SIAST can help you put all the pieces together. Looking at all the opportunities is the first step to finding a solution. If you are a counsellor, instructor or student in a high school, band school, Adult Basic Education program, Regional College or career exploration program, you are invited to attend Woodland-In-A-Day. On Wednesday, April 24th, from 9:00am to 4:00pm, starting in the Technical Centre at 1100-15th Street East, you can look into every nook and cranny of three Prince Albert centres. Woodland students themselves will be presenting their programs along with faculty and staff, so think up some hard questions to keep them on their toes.

Tour the Technical Centre to learn about careers in Cosmetology, Audiovisual, Weaving, Ceramics, Welding, Outdoor Power Equipment, Roofing, Cooking, Carpentry, Electrical, Electronics, Early Childhood, Integrated Resources, Chemical Dependency, Corrections, Business Administration or Office Technology. Stop and spend some time in any program that interests you.

At the Academic Centre tour the Aboriginal Student Activity Centre, the IBM Lab, Mac Lab, Science Lab and Plato Lab. At the Learning Resource Centre take a look at the Test Centre, Tutorial Services and try your hand at surfing the Internet. A shuttle service will take you to the Marquis Road Centre. There you can learn about training for Heavy Equipment Operator or about the Truck and Transport Mechanical Repair Program and, just for fun, in Driver Training, you can even drive a semi!

If you feel like wandering on your own, the displays in the Gym will reveal everything you need to know about Counselling Services, Extension and Marketing, Health Services, Program Development, Recreation Services, University Off-Campus and Registration. Gather information on Woodland Institute, SIAST - Kelsey, Wascana & Palliser, the University of Saskatchewan and the University of Regina. Take this information home to discuss with your family and friends.

During the day, take time to talk to students, faculty and staff. Ask them about the facilities and the programs. And if all this touring and information gathering makes you hungry, lunch is served from 11:00am to 2:00pm and refreshments and snacks are available all day.

This is the game plan for students - fun, games, information and entertainment from 9:00am to 4:00pm at Woodland. But there is one basic rule - NO SKIPPING SCHOOL! Students must be registered through their school or program.

If you can’t make it during the day, Woodland-In-A-Day is open to the general public from 4:00pm to 8:00pm.

We’re not saying Woodland-In-A-Day will solve all your problems, but it will take away much of the mystery surrounding post-secondary education opportunities and career choices. Together, they can help you solve your puzzle and show you the way to a rewarding future. Isn’t this worth one day?
