OPEN COMMUNICATION

(For more articles on the Prince Albert Health District click HERE)

Let’s talk. This could well be the slogan of the last decade. Getting problems into the open is the first step to finding a solution. Listening to others is a good way to build a strong community. An open line of communication is healthy. The Prince Albert District Health Board (PADHB), since its inception, has worked to provide quality health care to district residents and has steadily moved toward opening a communication line with the community.

In October 1995, a milestone was reached with the election of eight Board Members: Carol Beck, Dave Buettner, Molly Cowie, Robert Allen, Adele Boychuk, Jean Buettner, Lionel Roy and Janet Toews. In December 1995, Phil Morin, Stan Loewen, Lorne McClintick and Ron Mogg were appointed to the PADHB.

Open public meetings of the Prince Albert District Health Board have been a reality since January 10th 1996, and continue to take place on the first Wednesday of each month in the Victoria Hospital Upper Auditorium (1200-24th Street West) at 7:00 pm. The public is invited to attend and to listen to the PADHB. If a member of the public or a group wish to speak or have an item placed on the Board Agenda, they are encouraged to contact the Health Board Office by calling 953-0500, or by writing to Box 5700, Prince Albert SK, S6V 7V6.

Some guidelines for presentations include at least ten days notice prior to the meeting, accompanied by material for distribution. This allows the Board and staff time to give each presentation the consideration it deserves. Normally, the Agenda will be limited to three public presentations per Board Meeting, of five minutes each, with up to fifteen minutes allowed for discussion. Requests to make presentations or to have items placed on the Agenda received with less than ten days notice, will be placed on the Agenda for the following Open Meeting.

The PADHB is interested in what the community has to say! To date, presentations have been made by representatives from Pineview Lodge, Concerned Parents for Therapy Services to School Aged Children, and the Child Mothers Futures Program.

Anyone wishing to preview Board meeting material prior to the meeting may do so at the Board Office or at the John M. Cuelenaere Library. The agenda is also available in district libraries or posted in RM or Village Offices at least five days before the Open Board Meeting.

The next Open Board Meeting will be held on Wednesday, April 3rd at 7:00 pm in the Victoria Hospital Upper Auditorium.

Since the Province has discontinued capital grants and Municipalities also contribute less under the current levy, capital funding alternatives must be found. At the Open Meeting, the Health Board will be discussing some options for raising the required capital such as levying powers, gambling revenues, fundraising and charging premiums.

The Prince Albert District Health Board looks forward to seeing you there on April 3rd, and after that, on the first Wed. of every month!
