CARLTON COMPREHENSIVE HIGH SCHOOL
(For more articles on Carlton C. H. S. click )
Today the rapid evolution of technology makes it difficult to forecast where we'll be twenty years from now. One thing is certain. Our future depends on all the young men and women who are out there today- in our public schools, our high schools, our technical schools and universities. Our future is in their hands, and we must teach them well. Until thirty years ago, most children began their first formal education experience at six years of age, going from the home into primary school. Today, daycare, pre-school and kindergarten begin the education process of children a few months old and continue until they enter the public school system. By the time most students reach secondary or high school, they have spent most of their lives in the education system. Recognizing that greater educational opportunities at the high school level were needed, Saskatchewan's northernmost comprehensive high school opened in 1975.
Twenty years have passed and Carlton's modern classrooms, the sport and recreation facilities, the library, the computer labs, the cafeteria, lecture theatre and classrooms provide a comfortable learning environment for students from diverse ethnic and social backgrounds. The heart of Carlton is the Principal, Mr. John Kuzbik, Vice-Principals, Mr. Harrison and Ms Hill, and more than one hundred teachers, support staff, clerical and maintenance personnel who are dedicated to bringing students new educational opportunities. Offering courses in languages, sciences, social sciences, mathematics, fine arts, physical education, business and technical education plus a full selection of programs for special needs students - Carlton has helped students realize their abilities. Everyone is invited to celebrate these achievements at Carlton's 20th Anniversary Celebration, starting May 18th.

GEORGE BISHKO IS 93
Our neighbor, George Bishko will be 93 years old on May 15th. Born in 1902 in "the old country" he came to Canada at the age of 26. He arrived in Montreal in 1928 and his final destination was to have been Alberta. Tiring of the long train ride and sensing that Saskatchewan was a good place to start, he and his friends "jumped train" in Saskatoon and made their way to Prince Albert. A hard worker, George found work as a groom, farm labourer and construction worker. Earning room and board with little pay, he still managed to send money back home to repay his travel loan. George finally settled in Meath Park, married and had two children. He ran the pool hall, post office and operated the barber shop until he moved to Prince Albert to retire 20 years ago. George grows the best potato, onion and garlic crop in the neighborhood. He has apples, crabapples and raspberries and always encourages his neighbors to help themselves. Everything grows for George, especially the seeds of friendship that he scatters all around him and tends with kind words and warm smiles for everyone he meets... Happy Birthday Good Neighbor George!
