The French-Canadian Society in Prince Albert

The French in Prince Albert? A Francophone community in the City? Where are these francophones, who are they and what do they do? The history of the francophones in the Canadian West is not recent. They have been around long enough to have their stories and their heroes, their defeats and their victories. But today, in 1995, what does the future hold for the francophones?

Incorporated in 1984, The French Canadian Society was formed to unite the different groups of francophones in the City. Yes, today in Prince Albert there is a francophone world! There is a bank, a choir, a golden age club, a France Canada Club, a liturgical committee, a francophone school and parents association. There is everything here, including a school board, a women's group, toastmasters, a library, preschool, Scouts, a theatre group and a host of other activities and services.

The French Canadian Society is not only the organizer of activities such as the annual "Wine Cellar or Cave a Vin", but is also the umbrella organization that unites the urban francophone community.

The francophone world is a dynamic and lively place to discover and appreciate. You are welcome to join us and to get to know us and what better place than at the 'Wine Cellar/Cave a Vin" on February 18th at the Convention Centre. If you would like more information about the French Canadian Society or the events and activities organized by the francophones in Prince Albert, call 953-6453 and Donald will be happy to help you.
