INDIAN METIS FRIENDSHIP CENTRE
Times have changed and all of us continue to search for a better life. For some, this means moving from an isolated rural setting to a busy urban community. The benefits - employment and education opportunities - are often outweighed by difficulties in adjusting to a new society whose customs and values are unfamiliar, especially if there is no place to seek assistance or comfort.
In the autumn of 1958, a Service Council was formed to assist native people and from this council the Indian Metis Friendship Centre emerged, officially opening in Prince Albert in 1963. A focal point and meeting place, the Centre promotes understanding, trust and co-operation between all people while catering to the social, cultural and recreational needs of aboriginal people living in Prince Albert and surrounding districts.
Services and Support:
During regular office hours, Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm, a Fine Option Agent and Community Service Order Agent are present to explain these programs. Mediation services and information, a Family Worker as well as bookings for facilities such as the Board Room and Gymnasium are also available at these times. The Weekly Baby Clinic is held on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday and the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month from 9:30am to 3:30pm. Every Tuesday evening at 7pm the Women's Support Circle is held, A. A. Meetings every Thursday at 7:30pm and the Nechi Healing Circle starts at 6pm each Friday evening. Dry Dances, a popular event with young and old, are held with door prizes and lunch on the 2nd Saturday of each month.

SASKATCHEWAN LIBRARY WEEK
In 1897 limited library services were available to a few Prince Albertans and like our City, these services have grown and changed to reflect the needs of our community. Housed in various locations, the first "proper" library was on 12th Street West where it was located from 1951 until the opening of the John M. Cuelenaere Library in 1974. Named after our former Mayor, M.L.A. and benefactor, the library is truly an important community focal point offering information, entertainment and education for all. Two floors of books, audio-visual material, tapes, records and cds, language courses, talking books, an art gallery, meeting rooms, children's story corners and craft rooms, newspapers, magazines, a computer and photocopy machines are some of the services offered.
