Drossin was aiming for the American Record of 31:19.89 by Lynn Jennings.
Vasilyeva rabbited the race through seven laps (8:39).
For the remaining 18 laps, Drossin and Shibui shared pacing duties.
Shibui led through 5k in 15:27, her previous 5k PR was 15:35 but she has also run a 2:23:11 marathon.
Suibui finished fourth in the marathon at the 2001 World Championships.
Drossin has had a breakthrough year, winning the USA Marathon Championships in New York in her first attempt at the distance (2:26:58)...
...Finishing second at the World Cross Country Championships in the 8k and setting a world road record for 5k at Carlsbad.
Shibui won the race here in 30:48.89, breaking her track PR by a minute (she had run faster on the roads).
Deena Drossin finished second in 30:50.32, a new American Record by 29 seconds.
Shibui broke the Japanese record of 31:09.46 set by Yuko Kawakami in Brunswick, Maine in July 2000.
Drossin also ran about a minute faster than her previous personal best.
Drossin will next compete May 27 at the Bolder Boulder 10k, followed by the New York Mini 10k on June 8.
