Takahashi
went to Berlin intending to take a stab at Loroupe's marathon world
record of 2:20:43, set in Berlin three years ago. At 21 miles, Loroupe
was 90 seconds behind Takahashi, but Loroupe faded in the final
miles, running 2:28:02 for second.
