Just before the six-mile mark, Luminita Talpos of Romania led Catherine Ndereba.
Talpos could not hold off the soon-to-be five-time champion and finished second in 31:54.
Ndereba finished third here a year ago but reclaimed her title with a 31:53 win.
Constantina Tomescu-Dita of Romania finished third in 32:06.
Jen Rhines was the top American finisher and fourth overall in 32:21.
Rhines' shoe came untied during the race and her timing chip fell off.
Russia's Ludmila Petrova finished fifth in 32:32.
Silvia Skvortsova of Russia finished sixth in 32:46.
Rahab Ndungu of Kenya trails James Hommes.
Ndungu finished seventh among women in 32:53.
Zivile Balciunaite of Lithuania finished eight in 32:56.
After rain Friday night and Saturday morning, the skies dried up and race-time conditions were great.
Kayoko Obata of Japan finished ninth in 33:54.
Susannah Beck was the second American and 10th woman overall in 34:44. Beck is a Yarmouth, ME native...
...but didn't qualify for the title of top Maine woman because she's currently living in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Jill Gaitenby follows Jeff Doyon.
Gaitenby finished 13th in 35:03.
Seana Carmean kicked by Gaitenby at the end to finish 12th in a PR 34:57.
Carmen Ayala-Troncoso won the masters' race in 35:12.
Aimi Ishida of Japan leads Maggie Hanson and Elena Parmonova of Russia.
