Regional Award Winners Announced

Both the United States Cross Country Coaches Association (USCCA) and the Women's Cross Country Coaches Association (WCCA) announced its annual regional awards at the NCAA Championship banquet on Saturday night.

Earning Regional Men's Coach of the Year honors from the USCCA include:
Craig Fuller of Central Michigan from the Great Lakes Region
Marcus O'Sullivan of Villanova from the Mid-Atlantic Region
Larry Wieczorek of Iowa from the Midwest Region
Ron Mann of Northern Arizona from the Mountain Region
Mick Byrne of Iona from the Northeast Region
George Watts of Tennessee from the South Region
John McDonnell of Arkansas from the South Central Region
Rollie Geiger of North Carolina State from the Southeast Region
Vin Lananna of Stanford from the West Region

Earning regional Men's Athlete of the Year honors from the USCCA include:
Boaz Cheboiywo of Eastern Michigan from the Great Lakes Region
Mike Smith of Georgetown from the Mid-Atlantic Region
Andrew Carlson of Minnesota from the Midwest Region
Jorge Torres of Colorado from the Mountain Region
Tom McArdle of Dartmouth from the Northeast Region
David Kimani of Alabama from the South Region
Alistair Cragg of Arkansas from the South Central Region
Jason Meany of Clemson from the Southeast Region
Donald Sage of Stanford from the West Region

Earning regional Women's Coach of the Year honors from the WCCA include:
Tim Connolly of Notre Dame from the Great Lakes Region
Ron Helmer of Georgetown from the Mid-Atlantic Region
Rebecca Wilmes of Missouri from the Midwest Region
Patrick Shane of Brigham Young from the Mountain Region
Craig Lake of Columbia from the Northeast Region
J.J. Clark of Tennessee from the South Region
Lance Harter of Arkansas from the South Central Region
Annie Bennett of Wake Forest from the Southeast Region
Vin Lananna of Stanford and Annie Evans of Arizona State from the West Region

Earning regional Women's Athlete of the Year honors from the WCCA include:
Briana Shook of Toledo from the Great Lakes Region
Megan Metcalfe of West Virginia from the Mid-Atlantic Region
Amy Mortimer of Kansas State from the Midwest Region
Michaela Manova of BYU from the Mountain Region
Kate O'Neill of Yale from the Northeast Region
Vicky Gill of Florida State from the South Region
Karin Van Rooyen of SMU from the South Central Region
Shalane Flanagan of North Carolina from the Southeast Region
Alicia Craig of Stanford from the West Region

All 36 recipients are eligible for national coach of the year honors to be awarded Monday, November 25 at the conclusion of the 2002 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships.
