Ricky
Quintana: How did the race go?
Sunni Olding:
It was tough. [There were] a lot of lead changes, a lot of moving
around and stuff, but it was lots of fun. It was kind of a tough race
for me, I was already feeling a little fatigued by the second mile.
I'm just happy I could hang on for fifth and finish my senior season
on a good note.
RQ:
Were you happy with your performance?
SO:
Yeah. My main goal coming in, like I said, was top five, I really
wanted top five or better. Fifth, I got it, so I guess I can be happy.
RQ:
Where did the race get difficult and kind of get away from you?
SO:
Gosh. I was hurting a little bit by the two mile mark already, but
I was like, 'This is my last mile of my senior season and I have to
go after it.' I wouldn't have been happy if I didn't give it everything
I had. I feel like I can stand here and say I did.
RQ:
With a mile to go, everyone was there and it was so close for you.
SO:
Yeah, it was a tight pack for a lot of the race and made it kind of
tough, but I really do like running in packs. It makes it a lot of
fun and keeps your mind off of it a little bit when you're just running
with a big group of girls.
RQ:
Did you have that kick you were looking for in the end?
SO:
Not quite, but there really wasn't anyone that close to me that I
could have [caught]. I don't feel like I quite have the speed that
I needed yet, but that's okay, I got fifth, I'm happy with fifth.
RQ:
So what do you look forward to during the track season?
SO:
I guess it would be great to defend my two-mile championship. But
it's tough to defend, so I've just got to take a little break. I'm
playing some basketball during the winter, and then [I'll] start getting
ready for track season.
RQ:
What position do you play in basketball?
SO:
I'm actually like a forward, like a three or a four. [My team is]
playing a game in about an hour, so I'll have to see how they do.
